A Columbia man facing several state charges in connection with a shots-fired incident close to a Boonville school last November is now facing a federal gun charge.
The office of the U.S. District Attorney for Western Missouri announced Thursday, Mar. 5 that 38-year-old Dorian C Gardner was indicted by a federal grand jury for being a felon in possession of a handgun. Gardner was arrested by Boonville police after he allegedly pointed a gun at his pregnant girlfriend the morning of Nov. 24 at the intersection of Sixth and Locust, near Laura Speed Elliott Middle School.
According to a probable cause statement, the girlfriend told officers responding to the shots-fired call that the two had been arguing all morning. As the two were driving to Gardner’s house, Gardner exited their vehicle at the intersection and allegedly pointed a handgun at her, before turning the gun to his right and firing one shot across the street. Police say Gardner then fled on foot, but was located about a block away and arrested.
Gardner had been on probation and parole for prior felony convictions in Boone County. He’s awaiting trial on state charges of first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, and endangering the welfare of a child. A case review is scheduled for the morning of Monday, Mar. 9 in Cooper County Circuit Court.
