Lafayette County prosecutors have reached a plea agreement with a Higginsville man charged with several sex crimes involving a teenage victim.
The deal accepted Monday, Mar. 9 in Saline County Circuit Court saw the state dismiss two charges of rape against 20-year-old Demetrius T Silvey, while he admitted guilt to a downgraded charge of sexual abuse, along with sexual exploitation of a minor and furnishing pornographic materials to a minor. A probable cause statement accused Silvey of forcing himself onto two 15-year-old girls during multiple incidents in August 2024. One of the incidents was allegedly recorded, which Silvey was accused of showing to other youth at a local park, before deleting the video from his phone. Witnesses told Higginsville Police that they recalled the victim saying on the video that she did not consent. During the police investigation, Silvey told investigators that the victim had consented, while the other incident was in his words, “play wrestling”.
Silvey also entered a guilty plea to a charge of stealing a firearm from a separate incident reported in October 2024. Both cases were moved to Saline County on a change of venue. Sentencing is scheduled for the afternoon of April 27.
