
The Moberly Schools board of education also voted Tuesday, Mar. 10 to accept a proposal that could lead to the Spartans joining Marshall and two other NCMC schools in a new conference.
The board reviewed a letter of interest from the Midland Empire Conference, which indicates support for Moberly along with Marshall, Kirksville and Mexico to join the league that since 1962 has consisted of schools in Northwest Missouri. Supt. Cristina Wright says the opportunity to form an eastern division with Chillicothe will allow the Spartans to remain in a conference, with the NCMC dissolving at the end of the school year.

The MEC’s Board of Controls will need to approve formal invitations at their meeting scheduled for April 9.
Meanwhile, Moberly’s coaches and extracurricular sponsors will see a five-percent increased in their stipends next school year under a separate item approved Tuesday night.
The board also approved the benefits package for 2026-27, with a $33.67 per month increase passed along to staff.
The Moberly school board also approved a contract renewal with Opaa for food service, and added two teaching positions at Gratz Brown Elementary, one in third grade and the other in fifth grade.
