Some new faces will be leading Marshall High School’s football, baseball, and softball programs next year after action taken by the Board of Education on Tuesday, March 10th.

The board voted in closed session to hire Joe Reid as the next MHS Head Football Coach, who recently served as an assistant coach at Lee’s Summit West. Reid will succeed Ian Verts, who is returning to the main office to become the assistant principal at Marshall High School. New Activities Director Derek Bohnsack, who was involved in the interview process, spoke about was sets Reid apart.

The board also hired Kailei Allen as the new head softball coach, Coy Smith as head baseball coach, Robert Prewett as assistant baseball coach, and Greg Woodring as the head coach for girls golf and boys wrestling. With the exception of Prewett, each of these coaches were with the district in 2025-2026. Bohnsack says he’s excited about each of the hires.

Smith, Allen, and Woodring were all assistant coaches at MHS in 2025-2026. Prewett is currently a senior on Central Methodist University’s baseball team.
