A Sedalia man will spend the next four years behind bars after pleading guilty to one of the charges he was facing from a November incident that Sedalia police described as a hostage situation.
35-year-old Donald Knox Jr admitted Tuesday, Mar. 10 in Pettis County Circuit Court to the charge of third degree domestic assault. According to court documents, Knox was arrested the afternoon of Nov. 28 after leading police on a foot chase through his Sedalia neighborhood. The chase was the culmination of a string of incidents where Knox was accused of holding an ex-girlfriend hostage at her home. Police accused Knox of assaulting the woman’s neighbor with pepper spray, then hitting and strangling her before breaking her vehicle’s windshield, kicking her dog, and refusing to let her leave.
Officers say Knox returned to his home briefly before running from law enforcement. Knox was taken to Bothwell Hospital, where he allegedly attempted to flee and fight with officers, breaking a coffee pot before he was subdued.
The plea agreement with Pettis County prosecutors will see Knox spend four years in prison, with a recommendation that he receive institutional treatment. Prosecutors agreed to drop the other six charges Knox was indicted on by a grand jury last month, including kidnapping, property damage, animal abuse, and resisting arrest.
