A divided Boonville City Council voted Monday, Mar. 16 to approve new water and wastewater rates, effective April 1.

By a 5-3 vote, the council enacted the ordinance increasing water rates by an average of three percent. Council members Tanner Bechtel, Barry Elbert, and Sy Harvell opposed the increase, after echoing concerns raised by residents at the Mar. 2 reading where the ordinance received its first reading. No citizens stepped forward to offer comment at the beginning on Monday’s meeting, and council members opted to proceed to a vote without further discussion.

Also Monday night, the Boonville City Council unanimously approved its budget for Fiscal Year 2027, and provided final amendments to their budget for the current fiscal year. The council also gave second reading to ordinances authorizing amendments to contracts funding improvements at the Jesse Viertel Memorial Airport, and approved the final site plan for a new McDonald’s building in place of the current location along Route B. The council also adopted a resolution affirming Boonville’s commitment to public safety, in an effort to earn the Blue Shield Designation and qualify for funds to support first responders.
