The Marceline City Council approved an agreement last week for the replacement of a vertical turbine pump.

City manager Jesse Wallis tells KMMO News that the agreement with R & L Boone Construction will allow for the installation of the new pump at the city’s water treatment plant. Wallis says installation will take a month and cost $74,500, well below the budgeted amount of $110,000. Also last Thursday, the council accepted the bid from SRI Contractors to add foam coating to the roof at city hall at a cost of $9250, and also accepted the lone bid from Lawn Boys for $1950 per each mowing of the grass at the city cemetery. The council postponed consideration of solid waste service bids until their next meeting April 8.

Two board appointments were approved by the council. Wallis says that Marty Cupp will serve a four-year term representing Marceline on the airport board, while Kerry Welsh will complete the remaining two years of a term on the library board, replacing Margaret Epperson. The council also approved an amendment to the city’s personnel policy, ensuring that the city’s electrical crews are wearing fire-resistant clothing. Uniform allowances were increased to $200 for boots and $300 for jeans.

Wallis noted that next month’s meeting will also be the last for Gary Carlson as a council member, as Carlson did not file to run in the April 7 municipal election. Two candidates have filed for the position, Brian Baker and John Gibson. Wallis added that an additional meeting will be needed later in April for the council to reorganize following the election.
