The Mexico Bulldogs will join the pack of their fellow NCMC schools that are poised to receive invitations into the Midland Empire Conference.
By a 6-0 vote Tuesday, Mar. 18, Mexico’s school board voted to accept a pending invitation from the league, which would see them join Kirksville, Marshall, and Moberly and current MEC members Chillicothe in forming an eastern division. Supt. Dr Troy Lentz says he’s excited for the opportunity to remain with current conference foes, as well as reunite with Chillicothe.
.
Lentz notes that despite concerns about travel time to future conference opponents in the west division, Mexico found the MEC most receptive to admitting the Bulldogs.
The Midland Empire Conference’s Board of Controls is expected to meet April 9 to consider formal invitations to the four NCMC schools seeking membership. Fulton will become the eighth member of the Tri-County Conference this summer, while Hannibal is expected to go independent.
