The Slater City Council approved changes to council member compensation during its meeting on Tuesday, March 17th.
The council approved both readings of a bill to increase council pay from $10 to $25 per meeting attended. The increase only takes effect for council members elected after the April 7th Municipal Election.
The council also voted to reduce the number of hours the Mayor is required to spend working at city hall. The city’s current ordinance required the Mayor to be available four hours per business. City Administrator Gene Griffith stated that the current requirement would be difficult for any future Mayor who already works a full-time job. The council agreed to reduce the number of required hours from four to 1.5 per business day.
In other news, Griffith reported that the city’s ISO rating rose slightly to about a 6 from the last evaluation. The ratings calculate how well-equipped fire departments are to put out fires in that community. A lower rating is better and often means lower insurance premiums for residents.
Griffith also announced that Slater is hosting a city-wide Garage Sale on Saturday, May 2nd.
