A Warsaw man is facing charges in a pair of cases filed Wednesday, Mar. 18 stemming from two motor vehicle collisions.
Prosecutors in Benton County have charged 32-year-old Don Ray Workman Jr with two charges of driving while intoxicated resulting in physical injury, as well as leaving the scene of an accident. Probable cause statements from the Missouri State Highway Patrol accuse Workman of being intoxicated when he was driving on Route Z west of Warsaw the afternoon of Sept. 24. Troopers say Workman had swerved into the eastbound lane, into the path of another vehicle, before attempting to return to the eastbound lane to avoid the collision.
The collision sent Workman to a Lake Ozark hospital and two people in the other vehicle to a Clinton hospital, one with serious injuries. Troopers say they found an empty alcohol shooter bottle in Workman’s vehicle, and obtained a blood sample that last month revealed a .156 blood alcohol content.
In a second statement, troopers accuse Workman of leaving the scene of an accident that occurred the evening of Jan. 9 on the Mile Long Bridge outside Warsaw. The statement notes that a Benton County Deputy responding to the crash observed a truck leaving the scene that was traveling on one rim. Troopers say the truck was registered to Workman and was soon abandoned near Workman’s residence. He was arrested and processed that evening, where deputies said that pieces of glass came out of Workman’s hoodie pockets.
Warrants were issued by a Benton County Court for Workman’s arrest, with bond set at $10,000. An initial hearing on some of the charges is scheduled for the morning of April 14.
