The Marshall Owls Baseball team matched its win total from the 2025 season after splitting a pair of games against Tipton and Chillicothe during a triangular on Saturday.

 

The Owls got the day started with a 7-2 victory over the Cardinals. Brock Marshall picked up the win, allowing two runs and six hits across six innings of work. He walked three and struck out three. Marshall also reached base safely three times, which included a pair of hits and a walk. Chase Thompson also had two hits, two runs, and an RBI.

 

The Owls took a commanding lead during the bottom of the first when their first four batters reached base safely. The Owls added another run in the third when Thompson was able to come home after a balk. Marshall added three more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning before turning to Will Castaneda to close it out.

 

The second game started well for the Owls, who broke through with three runs in the second inning against Chillicothe. The Hornets, who are the reigning State Champions in Class Four, got two runs back in the bottom of the second. Both teams traded runs in the third before the wheels fell off for the Marshall pitching staff. The Owls allowed 12 runs to score in the bottom of the fourth, which helped Chillicothe close out a 15-4 victory in five innings.

 

Starter Emmitt Verts took the loss, giving up six runs in 3.1 innings. Verts did finish with a pair of hits and an RBI. 

 

The Owls move to 2-1 on the season after the games, matching their win total from the 2025 season. Marshall will be back in action on Tuesday, March 24th to open conference play against the Fulton Hornets. First pitch from Fulton is set for 5 p.m.
