The Brookfield R-III Board of Education is expected to have bids before them in April for the district’s health insurance coverage.

According to minutes from the district’s Tuesday, Mar. 17 meeting, Supt. Dr Eric Hoyt reported that Brookfield is needing to find a new provider, as the district’s current consortium, the Missouri Educators Unified Health Plan, is dissolving at the end of the current school year. Hoyt also presented the assessment payment due at the end of the month, totaling $282,021. Hoyt is expected to present bids at the board’s next meeting April 21.

Also last Tuesday, the board approved final reading of the latest slate of policy updates from the Missouri School Boards Association. These include four updates pertaining to instructional media centers, and the removal of two policies that were impacted by last year’s passage of Senate Bill 63. In executive session, the board hired Kyle Stuart as their new band teacher for both Brookfield High School and Middle School, and Kaylie Rold for high school social studies. Sarah Willis will relocate to the Linn County Area Career and Technical Center to become the Jobs for America’s Graduates teacher.

Brookfield R-III and the Linn County Commission will co-host a forum Tuesday, Mar. 24 at 5:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium to discuss items on the April 7 ballot, including the district’s proposed bond measure for facility improvements and a proposed property tax credit.
