A Slater teenager accused of bringing a firearm to school last September has admitted in court to three charges, while waiving his right to a jury trial on the weapons charge.
17-year-old Anthony Ray McDaniel will now go before Circuit Judge Joshua Taylor for a bench trial this June. A probable cause statement accused McDaniel of bringing a gun onto the Slater Schools campus the morning of Sept. 23, 2025, and telling several of his peers that he had done so. McDaniel agreed Monday, Mar. 23 in Saline County Circuit Court to the bench trial, and also entered guilty pleas to charges that he broke into a neighbor’s home to steal the gun, and attempting to flip a table and throwing a chair at Saline County sheriff’s deputies who were questioning him. A court ruled in November that McDaniel could be tried as an adult.
The bench trial is scheduled for the morning of June 12.
