The Slater Schools board of education adopted their salary schedule for the next school year, agreeing Tuesday, Mar. 24 to a number of raises.

The board approved an increase of $400 in the base salary for certified staff, along with a 1.5 percent increase for non-certified staff. The board also added columns for certified substitutes and teachers with Master’s degrees, ensuring that those with 10 years of experience are making at least $47,000 per year. Supt. Dr Terry Lorenz says the raises come as the district is balancing the need to attract quality staff with tightening resources.
.

During his report, Lorenz said the district will look to make repairs to part of the roofs on campus, in the hopes of extending their life until the funding is in place to replace them.

Lorenz says he and his staff are paying even more attention to their budget line-items and expenditures.

The board also approved the district’s health insurance plans for the next school year, with the cost increasing by four-point-six percent. The district will contribute an additional 25 dollars per month for each employee on the plan. Also during his report, Lorenz announced that to make up a snow day, Slater Schools will have a full day of classes Wednesday, April 1, with the half-day before Easter break scheduled for April 2.
