Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation will begin a series of sidewalk projects Monday in several Macon County communities.

The first of five projects in the county will take place in the College Mound community along Route C, where it is concurrent with Route T. Upon its completion, crews will then improve sidewalks along Route 149 in Ethel, Route J in Elmer, Route 156 in South Gifford, and Route 156 in La Plata. Stanton Contracting of Kirksville was awarded the contract totaling $982,521.

Travelers are advised to expect temporary closure of sidewalks and other pedestrian paths currently in place, intermittent lane closures with a 10-foot width restriction, and even short-term road closures as necessary. While all work is scheduled for the spring, the contractor has until September to complete the work. All work is weather dependent, and schedules are subject to change.
