Kris Bubic made a triumphant return to the mound Monday afternoon, helping the Kansas City Royals defeat the Minnesota Twins 3-1 in the team’s home opener at Kauffman Stadium.

Bubic, who was shut down last season in July with a left rotator cuff strain, picked up the win in his return after allowing just one run on two hits through six innings of work. Bubic also struck out four. Minnesota’s lone run came off the bat of Matt Wallner, who his a solo shot to lead off the second inning.

The Royals responded with a homer of their own in the bottom of the inning, a two-run jack from Kyle Isbel. Kansas City added some insurance in the seventh with a solo homer from Isaac Collins.

After scoreless frames from Daniel Lynch IV and Nick Mears, the Royals turned to John Schreiber to close out the game in the ninth. He pitched around a two-out single from Ryan Jeffers to secure his first save of the season.

The Royals improve to 2-2 on the season. After an off-day, the Royals will resume its series against the Twins on Wednesday. Noah Cameron is expected to make his season debut. Pregame coverage begins at 6, with first pitch at 6:40 on KMMO FM 102.9.
