
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says both drivers involved in a crash late Tuesday, Mar. 31 along U.S. Route 50 near Smithton have lost their lives.
Troopers responded to the two-vehicle crash around 11:30 p.m. about a half-mile west of the intersection of Route 50 and Monsees Road. According to the Patrol’s report, a 58-year-old man from Smithton was driving eastbound when his pickup traveled into the oncoming lane of traffic, striking a Jeep head-on that a 45-year-old Green Ridge woman was driving. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene a short time later by first responders. The Patrol notes they have recorded 14 fatalities from 13 fatal crashes in the Troop A region this year.
