Andre Pallante held the New York Mets to just three hits, as the St Louis Cardinals claimed a 3-0 shutout Tuesday, Mar. 31 at Busch Stadium.
Two of those hits were to Juan Soto, who landed a one-out single in the first and a double to lead off the sixth. After issuing walks later in both innings, the Cardinals were able to get out of the jams, with Pallante striking out Jared Young to end the first and Gordon Graceffo relieving Pallante in the sixth to get a flyout and double-play. The bullpen only allowed one walk the rest of the game, as Pallante recorded three strikeouts and three walks in his five-plus innings to get the win.
The Cardinals scored their runs in the third, when Victor Scott II’s leadoff double was followed by a JJ Wetherholt single, and both runners coming home on Iván Herrera’s double to left field. Ramón Urías led off the seventh with a home run to center field.
Kodai Senga took the loss, going six innings and allowing two runs on four hits and three walks, despite striking out nine. Richard Lovelady allowed Urías’ home run and one other hit, while issuing a walk and two pubchouts. The save went to Riley O’Brien after an unblemished ninth inning, for his first save of the season.
The Cardinals have evened the series against the Mets and are now 3-2 on the season. They’ll look for the series win Wednesday afternoon if the weather allows, as Matthew Liberatore goes up against Freddy Peralta. First pitch is at 1:15 p.m.
