A teenager from Excelsior Springs was seriously Tuesday, Mar. 31 after a three-vehicle crash east of Sweet Springs along Interstate 70.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that the teenager was driving his pickup west on the interstate when at around 1:15 p.m., he struck the towed unit of a tractor-trailer. That caused the truck to collide with another pickup, while the first pickup went off the side of the roadway and struck a fence. The teenager was taken to a Columbia hospital with serious injuries. No injuries were reported for the other two drivers, as troopers say they were able to drive their vehicles from the scene.

The crash occurred at the 67.8 mile marker, about a mile east of Sweet Springs.
