The Bevier Wildcats scholar bowl team will enter this weekend’s Class One, District Four tournament with a firm grip on this year’s Tri-County (North) Conference trophy.
Bevier rolled to a 4-0 record Saturday, Apr. 11 in Novinger, defeating La Plata 380-150 in the championship match of the double-elimination tournament, after going 8-0 in their round-robin triads during March. Senior Stefan Bilinski averaged 140 points per game Saturday to lead the all-tournament team.
.
Bilinski credits the work he and his teammates have put in throughout the season. He says he’s enjoyed the opportunity to expand his knowledge on various subjects, including fine arts.
Bilinski was joined Saturday by teammates Josie Birdsong, Eli Brower, Emmalyn Pantaleo, Eyan Pantaleo, Max Souther, and Jet Walker. Bevier’s head coach is Brian Toll.
Bevier attended a number of tournaments around the region this season. Bilinski says a highlight of the season came in February at Schuyler County, where Bevier handed eventual champions Marceline their only loss of the day. Now the Wildcats prepare to welcome teams for districts this Saturday, including longtime powers North Shelby and the CAC Champions Cairo. The winner of Saturday’s Class One District Four tournament will host a best-of-three quarterfinal Apr. 28 against the winner of District Three, which includes a defending state champion, Weaubleau.
