Sales and use tax revenue in Saline County slipped for a second straight month in April, but sales tax collections remained higher in March compared to the previous year.

Figures presented last week by Saline County Treasurer Jared Brewer show that the Missouri Department of Revenue remitted to the county $114,349.10 in sales tax collections this month. The collections were during the month of March and were down 3.5 percent from the previous month. While it’s the second straight month-over-month decline, the pattern follows totals from last year, and collections compared to the previous year were up almost nine percent. Similar figures were also reported for the county’s economic development and law enforcement sales taxes.

Use tax collections also dropped for a second straight month, sliding 4.6 percent to $84,450.23. Collections were also down a third from a year ago, as the county received a record amount of $126,832.65 this time a year ago. Year-to-date totals are trending ahead of last year’s pace, with the sales tax collections this year averaging $118,442.47 per month and use tax averaging $93,303.65.
