Richard Linn “Rick” Harding, 74, of Houstonia, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

He was born December 23, 1951, in Warrensburg, the youngest of seven children of Julius and Harriet (Robinson) Harding.

Rick grew up in the Johnson County area and attended school in Chilhowee. He began his career as a telephone man and adapted as the industry changed over the years. His work required frequent moves, and his family made homes in several places along the way. He was a hard worker and known as an honest, straightforward man.

Rick was a dedicated member of the local A.A. community and had been sober for 36 years. While the first half of his life was difficult, he spent the second half with purpose by helping others and giving back.

He lived an adventurous life. While living in Florida, he enjoyed scuba diving and time on a houseboat. After returning to Missouri, he enjoyed hunting.

More than anything, he valued time with his family, especially staying involved in the lives of his grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Carrie Harding of Marshall; a son, Erik Harding (Riki) of Houstonia; and three grandchildren, Abbi, Olivia, and Eli.

He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, Jerry, Ted, Bill, Roy, Kitty, and Larry.

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Jacob Ellis Cemetery near Warrensburg.

Arrangements are in the care of Heckart Funeral Home.
