The newest member of the Marceline City Council was sworn in during a special meeting held last week.

Brian Baker was administered the Oath of Office and succeeds former councilman Gary Carlson. City Manager Jesse Wallis tells KMMO News that council members also selected a Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem.

The council also approved the purchase of playground equipment for Walt Disney Municipal Park.

The council approved the playground design proposal from ParksWorks during its April 8 meeting. Wallis says the equipment will be delivered in about 15-17 weeks, with the goal to have installation take place later this year.

In other news, the council approved its health, dental, and vision insurance renewal with Anthem with an 8.8 percent increase. A one-year extension was also approved with BB Boring for the city’s water and sewer repair needs.

The Marceline City Council will next meet on Wednesday, May 13.
