Both robotics teams from Smith-Cotton High School are on the road Tuesday, Apr. 28 to Houston, hoping to bring back another blue banner and world championship to display in the workshop.

Team SCREAM and Team SCREAM Jr will both compete beginning Wednesday in the FIRST World Championships, seeking to claim the program’s second title in three years. Assistant coach Mindy Gray says over 40 students are involved in the program, and she has been impressed with the effort they’ve put into preparing for competition.

The teams posted top-two finishes at regionals in Arkansas and Kansas City this season. Head Coach Michael Wright says the team not only focused on rebuilding their robots, but also retooling how they approach gameplay.

The FIRST World Championships take place Wednesday through Saturday in Houston, featuring 600 teams in attendance.
