Mizzou Athletics say that running back Ahmad Hardy is recovering after a shooting at a concert over the weekend in Mississippi.

The University announced Monday, May 11 that Hardy underwent surgery Sunday and is in stable condition. Hardy transferred to Mizzou last season from Louisiana-Monroe and led the SEC in rushing with 1649 yards and 16 touchdowns.

WDAM-TV in Laurel, Miss. is reporting that Hardy was among two gunshot victims found outside the concert venue when officers arrived around 2 a.m. Sunday. Three suspects—all 19 years old—were arrested at the scene, and charges are pending.

In their statement, Mizzou expressed that, “Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family and fans. We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength and support.”  The statement concluded by saying a timeline for Hardy’s return is not known and that Mizzou Athletics would provide more information as it becomes available.

Mizzou Football will begin their 2026 season Thursday, Sept. 3 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
