State Fair Community College has announced the recipients of its 2025-26 Writing Scholarship Awards: Chayanne Monroe and Megan Parks.

Monroe, a student of Dr. Amanda Drake, received a $500 scholarship for her essay, “Not Another Statistic,” submitted in a Composition I course. Monroe is pursuing a degree in diagnostic medical sonography. Her career goal is to become a sonographer and work in the healthcare field where she can use imaging technology to help diagnose and care for patients. She said she is excited to continue building her skills and knowledge as she works toward the profession and is grateful for the recognition and scholarship.

Parks, a student of Randy Crawshaw, received a $500 scholarship for her essay, “Santa Claus Phenomena,” submitted in a Composition I course. Parks, a Warrensburg High School graduate, she returned to SFCC after working in veterinary medicine for more than a decade. Parks is pursuing new academic goals and has applied to the Radiologic Technology program for fall 2026.

All SFCC composition and literature instructors were invited to submit essays for the 2025-26 academic year competition. Fifteen essays were entered, and an English instructor who did not submit essays this year served as judge to select the top two entries.
