The Orearville R-IV School is not only marking the success of their fourth-grade trio whose creation won Best In Show at the Kansas City Invention Convention, but also finalist honors for four more of their students.
While the “Pencil Watch” won Best in Show for fourth-graders Heidi, Kinley and Quincy, three more inventions by their peers receive invites to return to the regional awards ceremony on the UMKC campus April 20. Sponsor Chrissy Gessling tells KMMO News it was an impressive feat for Orearville, who participated in the contest for the first time this spring.
.
Gessling says the district was invited to take part by their counterparts in Marshall.
Their success now results in the “Pencil Watch” making its way to Dearborn, Michigan next month for the national contest at the Henry Ford Museum.
Gessling says the district is accepting donations to help cover the trip’s costs. Anyone wishing to contribute can contact Orearville principal Whitney Thompson at the school.
