The new date for the City of Slater’s dog tag and rabies shot clinic was announced during the meeting of the city’s City Council on Tuesday, May 19.

The clinic was originally scheduled to be held on April 29, but will now take place on Wednesday, May 27. Residents can take care of dog tags, rabies shots, and other vaccinations at the clinic from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Volkfest Building.

In other news, City Administrator Gene Griffith announced that the city is planning to open the city pool on Monday, May 25. Griffith notes the opening is dependent on whether the city can finish striping and painting the pool.

Griffith also provided an update on potential assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). He notes FEMA is still conducting its assessment on the damage reported during storms that rolled through the area in late-April. The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-2 tornado touched down in Slater, creating substantial damage to city buildings and infrastructure and leaving residents without power for an extended period. The event would need to be declared a disaster before the city or the county can receive SEMA and FEMA aid.

The council’s next meeting is set for Tuesday, June 2.
