A small town in the KMMO listening has applied for and received a USDA Rural Development grant covering the majority of the purchase price for a much-needed vehicle to be used for around-the-town chores.
Nelson Mayor Gale Cornine says the grant money will be used to purchase a 40 horsepower tractor.
Cornine says it’s been needed for some time.
Cornine says it is a 75/25 grant, so the town came up with about $10,000 of the total roughly $40,000 price tag.
Cornine says he’s grateful to get the help: “I was kind of shocked that we got it…. I’m very grateful to get it. It’s a great improvement to what we can do here in the city in the winter and the summer, mowing, and keeping things looking a lot better.”
Cornine says a presentation ceremony will be held from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, at Ag-Power John Deere on North Highway 65 in Marshall.
