Formal charges have been filed against a 21-year-old Fayette man in an alleged homicide in Howard County earlier this week.
According to Howard County Sheriff Mike Neal, one person was killed on Monday, December 30, 2019, in an apparent shooting incident.
According to Fayette Police Chief Jeff Oswald, 29-year-old John L. Turner, of Poplar Bluff, was found deceased inside his vehicle from an apparent gunshot wound at approximately 1:30 p.m. The vehicle was parked in the 200 block of South Linn Street. Officers were called to the scene to check on the well being of Turner; and they had received reports of another subject running from the vehicle.
An investigation led authorities to arrest Alfredo Demario Hicks Jr. on Tuesday, December 31. He was placed on a 24-hour hold.
An autopsy of Turner has been scheduled to be conducted on Thursday, January 2, at University Hospital in Columbia.
Court documents say a warrant has been served and Hicks has been charged with a Class A Felony for Murder in the First Degree; and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action. At this time, the court has ordered no bond.
Hicks’ initial arraignment is scheduled to be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, January 3, at Howard County Circuit Court.
