The Saline County Career Center received a $7,500 gift from the “Randy McGraw Memorial Fund.”
A news release says the gift will purchase Automotive Technology Program equipment.
The McGraw family presented the gift to SCCC staff in memory of Randy McGraw, who passed away unexpectedly in 2018. McGraw was a 1970 graduate of Marshall High School. He opened McGraw Automotive in Marshall in 1982; and was an avid racecar enthusiast, owning several cars for dirt and circle-track racing. The McGraw family, along with dedicated friends and community members, have organized events such as the “Hard to Handle Randall Golf Scramble” to support the fund. The family intends to support different community groups with proceeds from these events. To date, over $10,000 has been given back to the community through their efforts.
SCCC Director Callie Dobbins said: “We are honored to receive this generous gift in memory of Mr. McGraw. The SCCC Automotive Technology program, led by instructor Daniel Danks, will use the monies to update its equipment. Students from Marshall, Slater, Sweet Springs and Malta Bend will benefit from this gift. The automotive industry is constantly changing with technology and equipment updates. This generous gift will help the automotive program move forward, allowing SCCC to utilize modern equipment for hands-on learning.”
