A 39-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man has been charged with multiple felonies in connection with a homicide in an area town over the weekend.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, shortly before 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, personnel from the Holden Police Department and the sheriff’s department responded to the 700 block of South Market Street in regards to a shooting. Witnesses reported to dispatch that a subject exited the residence with a firearm and fled the scene in a vehicle.
Upon arrival, authorities located a victim- 41-year-old Robert W. Horton, of Holden- deceased from gunshot wounds inside the residence.
Law enforcement located and interviewed several witnesses, and a search for the suspect began. During the search, a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, and Jason M. Jones was taken into custody.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, the Johnson County Prosecutor has filed formal charges against Jones of Class A Felonies for First-Degree Murder, Murder in the Second Degree (Felony Murder During Perpetration/Attempted Perpetration/Flight from Perpetration of a Felony, where a Person Dies), and two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Shooting at a Person in a Building, Resulting in Death); Class B Felonies for First-Degree Burglary and First-Degree Assault; five counts of a Class C Felony for Endangering the Welfare of a Child; a Class D Felony for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm; and nine counts of an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action. He reportedly is being held without bond.
Jones’ initial appearance is pending at Johnson County Circuit Court.
