In addition to making the decision not to put a tax issue before voters this spring, the Marshall School Board heard some updates and discussed several other items during its meeting on Tuesday, January 21.
According to meeting minutes, during her report, superintendent Dr. Carol Maher reviewed the 2017 and 2019 lease purchases. She also reported work has begun on the district’s strategic plan for 2020-2025. She also said committees are being formed, and the administration hopes to be able to present these to the board in June for approval.
Dr. Maher also reported that as of the day of the meeting, the district had missed three days of school. According to the calendar, the first two days will be made up Wednesday, March 25, and Thursday, March 26. However, she asked for the board to approve the third day to be made up on Monday, April 13, and not Friday, March 27, as listed on the calendar. That request was approved unanimously by the board. There will be no school on March 27.
In other news, assistant superintendent Dr. Terry Lorenz reported the drain issue at MHS was fixed over Christmas break. He also said a 500-gallon propane tank has been installed at the concession stand; and insulating and heating the concession stand is being considered.
Dr. Lorenz also reported the safe rooms at the Spainhower School addition are nearing completion, and the firewall between the old and new has been installed. He added work is being done to update the gas pump at the bus barn; and the annual bus safety inspection by the Missouri State Highway Patrol will be on February 26.
Dr. Lorenz also said work is being done by the tech department on student laptops to prepare for testing, and piloting clevertouch boards is being considered.
