A 25-year-old Lexington resident is facing a felony charge for allegedly stealing a vehicle.
According to a probable-cause statement, on January 27, the Lexington Police Department took the report of a stolen vehicle- a 2007 Dodge Nitro- at a business located in the 900 block of Main Street. A suspect was seen taking the vehicle by officers looking at surveillance footage from cameras in the area. The vehicle reportedly was recovered later than night by the Kansas City Police Department.
On February 1, authorities were contacted by the victim, who said that going through the vehicle, a debit card and a direct-deposit form in the name of Devon Boyd were found. Boyd also was identified by authorities through the viewing of surveillance video in the area of the reported theft.
According to court documents, a warrant has been issued and Boyd has been charged with a Class D Felony for Tampering with a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree. Bond has been fixed at $15,000 cash or surety.
Boyd’s initial appearance is pending at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
