The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is scheduled to host a free youth turkey hunting and outdoor skills clinic next month in Johnson County.
According to MDC, the event is scheduled to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, at the University of Central Missouri shooting range at 454 Division Street in Warrensburg.
This clinic is for youths ages 8-15, who must be accompanied by an adult.
Experts are scheduled to teach participants about hunting wild turkeys. Topics are scheduled to include hunting strategies, safety, wildlife identification and wildlife habitat. Instruction scheduled to be given include shooting skills and how to test shot patterns for shotguns at a target shooting range.
MDC will provide shotguns and shells. However, participants may also bring their own shotguns to test shot patterns. The clinic also makes participants eligible for a mentored youth turkey hunt, which is a separate event during the youth season April 4-5.
The clinic also is scheduled to offer instruction in other outdoor skills such as fishing and target shooting with crossbows. A free lunch will be provided.
Registration is required. Participants can register for the event at MDC’s events webpage- short.mdc.mo.gov/ZsM
