A Boonville man has been charged with a couple of felonies after several incidents on July 26 in Cooper County.
According to a report from a Boonville Police officer, at approximately 5:41 a.m., Marquan Dejuan Pitre came to the police department to report he had been involved in an accident somewhere in the area. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate anything.
At approximately 8:27 a.m., a man brought in a camouflage backpack he had found on an air-conditioning unit about two blocks from the police department. A rifle that had been cut off was observed sticking out of the bag, which also contained a Ziploc bag containing 10 grams of a green leafy substance; a debit card belonging to a female; playing cards; $47 in cash; some change; 41 .22-caliber rounds; three packages of Swisher Sweets; and other miscellaneous items.
The woman to whom the ATM card belonged told officers that Pitre had stayed at her residence, and when she woke up she said Pitre was putting her jewelry in his backpack. She described the backpack which matched the one found. The woman reported to authorities, after Pitre left, she noticed $142 she had in her wallet was gone.
At approximately 1:29 p.m., officers were dispatched to an ATM in the 400 block of East Spring Street for a vehicle which had been sitting near the ATM for a long time. An officer observed Pitre passed out behind the wheel. After several minutes, the officer was able to wake him. The officer observed a Ziploc baggie containing 30 grams of a green leafy substance. The officer also located $81, a .22-caliber round and a playing card, which matched items in the backpack.
While an officer was transporting Pitre to University Hospital in Columbia to get a fit-for-confinement order due to him being under the influence of Xanax, the officer said he stopped for a red light and Pitre placed the handcuffs in front, released his seat belt, slid over to the passenger’s side and grabbed the door handle and attempted to push open the door.
Pitre has been charged with a Class D Felony for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and a Class E Felony for Escape or Attempted Escape From Custody while Under Arrest for Felony. Bond has been set at $50,000 cash or surety.
Pitre’s initial hearing is pending at Cooper County Circuit Court.
