Multiple felony charges have been filed against a Cooper County resident for allegedly shooting at another vehicle on I-70 in Montgomery County on April 7.
According to a probable-cause statement, Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers responded to the report of a shooting on eastbound I-70 near mile marker 175. The reporting party indicated that the driver and sole occupant of a white Volkswagen Jetta had fired shots from inside his moving vehicle that struck and disabled a van that also was traveling eastbound. After the shooting, the driver of the Volkswagen took the next exit and turned back westbound on I-70. The van that was hit by the gunfire had three persons inside. A truck driver also gave an eyewitness account of the incident.
The suspect vehicle was stopped on I-70 in Boone County, and troopers located a rifle inside the vehicle and a pistol with additional magazines on the suspect. Troopers also observed what appeared to be spent cartridge casings and other evidence indicating a weapon had been fired from inside the vehicle.
Chad Michael Kennedy, of Boonville, has been charged with six counts of a Class B Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon; three counts of a Class B Felony for Assault or Attempt in the First Degree; and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action. The court has ordered Kennedy be held without bond.
Kennedy appeared for initial hearing on April 9. His next hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, at Montgomery County Circuit Court.
