In an effort to continue to keep the community safe and help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) the Marshall Parks and Recreation Board has made the decision to cancel some summer activities.
During the meeting of the Board on Wednesday, May 6 the decision was made to join a growing number of communities and close the pool and cancel summer programs organized by Marshall Parks and Recreation department in 2020.
According to the Marshall Parks and Recreation Department, many considerations about the unique requirements of an aquatics setting and programs setting in this climate made it clear the best and quickest way to return to normal was to refrain from opening the Marshall Aquatic Center and to cancel baseball and softball programs for this season.
Based on standards set for the aquatic industry, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) would have been required for both employees and guests. There would have been significant restrictions in hours that would include closing throughout the day to sanitize, elimination of pool parties, severe restrictions on the number of people that could attend and more.
The Parks and Recreation Department says no matter which perspective the issue was approached in recent days, overall community impact, public health and safety, facility staff health and safety, every perspective pointed to the uniqueness of an aquatics environment and cancelling baseball and softball programs for the 2020 season was not only necessary but inevitable and an unavoidable action.
