First responders in an area community were called out to a report of children perhaps being in distress on Monday, May 25.
According to a report from the Sedalia Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of West 9th Street.
The caller reported that there were children playing in a drainage ditch, and she heard yelling coming from the ditch.
Responding officers spoke with juveniles in the area who reported seeing two small children in the ditch and believed the children may have been swept away by water.
Members of the police department, with assistance from the Sedalia Fire Department, Sedalia Sewer Department, Pettis County Sheriff’s Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Pettis County Fire, Pettis County Ambulance District and several members of the general public performed a thorough search of the ditch.
Further investigation showed the incident to be unfounded.
