While a majority of the 2020 Saline County Fair events occur July 11-19, two events were held early due to scheduling and weather restrictions.
A news release says on Monday, June 22, 4-H Youth competed in the Saline Sportsfishing Derby. Results from Sportsfishing include: Intermediate First Place – Whit Thomas; Senior First Place – Chandler Johnson; Sportsmanship First Place (tie) – Ty Murphy and Chase Johnston.
On July 6, Saline County Western Heritage showcased its skills by dressing in Old West period clothing and shooting replica firearms from 1860-1900. Results will be released July 14 during Exhibit Day Drop-off.
The Dog and Horse Shows were held on Monday, July 13. During the Dog Show, 4-H’ers and their dogs competed in obedience, showmanship and talent classes.
Results from the Dog Show: Beginner’s Obedience Grand Champion – Andi Gooden and Barry; Advanced Obedience Grand Champion – Andi Gooden and Lola, Reserve Champion – Grace Ulbrich and Jingle; Advanced Showmanship Grand Champion – Grace Ulbrich and Jingle, and Reserve Champion – Andi Gooden and Lola.
The Horse Show is considered a culmination of learning that includes riding skills, horse appearance and care, and horse behavior and safety. Youth from 4-H and FFA compete in multiple events such as trails, horsemanship and games. Overall point results from the Horse Show will be announced on Sunday, July 19.
