Statewide or within regions of the state, there were numerous races for the nomination of the political parties decided during the Primary Election on Tuesday, August 3. There were also a number of issues on the ballot, as well.
The biggest hot-button issue before voters was Amendment 2- better known as Medicaid Expansion- with 1,263,776 votes cast. According to Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, the measure was approved by voters by a 53.25- to 46.75-percent margin. The final unofficial vote total was 672,967 yes and 590,809 no votes.
The race for the next governor is down to two as front-runners- current Governor Republican Mike Parson will take on Democrat challenger Nicole Galloway in November. Parson received more than 75 percent of the votes in the four-person race in the Republican Party. Galloway totaled more than 84 percent of the votes cast in the Democratic Primary, which included five candidates. There also will be candidates in several other parties, including the Libertarian Party and Green Party.
Also races were decided for U.S. and state Representative and U.S. and State Senator nominees.
Numerous other races within counties for commissioners, sheriffs, assessors, coroners, public administrators and more also were decided.
