A 46-year-old Smithton man charged with a couple of felonies after a reported incident in June in Sedalia has a hearing scheduled next month.

On June 23, a Pettis County Sheriff’s deputy arrived at the scene of a reported disturbance with a possible weapon. A woman stated that while she was asleep, Christopher Cowles unlawfully entered her property and came upstairs where she was sleeping and pulled her out of her bed by her hair while she was sleeping. The victim instructed her roomate to contact authorities while Cowles was yelling at her. The woman said after yelling at her, Cowles left her room and went into her roommate’s room where and started threatening her, acting like he was going to stab her with the handle of a toothbrush he had retrieved from the bathroom.

Cowles has been charged with a Class B Felony for Burglary in the First Degree and a Class C Felony for Domestic Assault in the Third Degree. On August 4, Cowles posted the $25,000 surety bond. On August 6 the court issued a warrant and revoked his bond after the court was notified that he had violated a condition of his bond prohibiting any contact with alleged victim. At Cowles’ request, the court has set bond at $5,000 cash or surety with additional conditions that he shall have no contact of any kind with the victim.

A Counsel Status Hearing in this case has been scheduled to be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22 at Pettis County Circuit Court.
