Mother Nature currently is dropping freezing rain in the KMMO listening area.

With the temperature at or below freezing in many of the area cities, towns and villages, driving conditions are a bit treacherous.

According to MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map, most major highways and rural routes in the immediate KMMO listening area are either partially and completely ice covered.

That includes I-70 from just east of Kansas City to Columbia; and U.S. Highway 65 from south of Sedalia near Lincoln north through Marshall to just north of Chillicothe.

MoDOT advises drivers to slow down and take their time and allow extra time to reach their destination today.

The Winter Storm Warning continues until 8 p.m. on Friday, January 1.

Also, according to the Pettis County Sheriff’s Department, drivers are advised to avoid Highway 765 south of U.S. Highway 65; and Highway 135 between U.S. Highway 50 and May Road due to power lines across the roadways.

Be sure to listen to KMMO for all of the weather updates throughout the day.
