As the media focuses on investments and the stock market, the Secretary of State’s Securities Division encourages investors to contact its office if you believe you have not been treated fairly or if a broker or brokerage has acted inappropriately. The Securities Division can also help when you are approached about an investment or have concerns or questions.

According to a news release, the Securities Division provides investment education, regulatory oversight and enforcement and can help Missouri investors determine whether their financial adviser or investment is properly registered in Missouri.

Many risky investments in 2020 continue to be a concern in 2021. Examples include promissory notes, Ponzi schemes, real estate-related investments, cryptocurrency and social media/internet investment schemes.

It is easy to get in touch with the Securities Division office, by phone or email. If you believe you have been unfairly treated or your broker or brokerage has acted inappropriately, call (800) 721-7996 or by emailing securities@sos.mo.gov.

More information is available online on the Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.mo.gov/securities.
