A wind chill advisory has been issued for the entire KMMO listening area.

According to a release from the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office, the National Weather Service has issued the advisory from midnight tonight to noon on Friday, February 12.

Wind chills are expected to plummet to 10 to 20 below zero.

The cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. A prolonged period of cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills will remain possible for the weekend into early next week.

People are urged to use caution while traveling outside. They are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing, a hat and gloves.

The area affected includes Saline, Carroll, Chariton, Cooper, Howard, Lafayette and Pettis Counties.
