The third annual Saline County Career Center DECA Awards ceremony was held Monday, May 10, to honor the SCCC Chapter in multiple areas.

With the chapter officers acting as the master of ceremonies, students were presented with DECA stoles, letters, pins and two scholarships.

SCCC DECA competitors were recognized for competing at district and state competition as well as earning “Thrive” status and completing four DECA chapter campaigns for the third year in a row. The next year’s leadership team was announced and signed commitment letters as well.

Several students were recognized for earning a DECA letter/pin during the 2020-2021 school year: Holly Huston, Alexia Bowlen, Nikole Gooden, Bailey Kueker, Xane Anderson, Omar Quintana, Herson Renderos, Jessica Parada, Ashley Garner, A-Quila Thomas, Lizvet Menendez, Gabriel Boatman, Julisa Umana and Kelly Stewart.

This was the fourth year the SCCC Chapter offered a the Ascend DECA Scholarship (last year, the scholarship was awarded virtually). Thanks to an anonymous donor who matched the scholarship, two seniors were awarded $250 based on a short essay, GPA and resume. Gooden and Quintana were recognized as the scholarship recipients this year.

White Stoles (Seniors earning white stoles competed at State competition) were: Joshua Garcia and Renderos.

Gold Stoles (Seniors earning gold stoles were on the leadership team this year) were: Garner, Gooden and Quintana.
