A Marshall man is facing a felony following an altercation that allegedly took place inside the Saline County Justice Facility in December.

According to a probable cause statement, on December 7, LaMont Cooper got into an altercation with another inmate over a bunk. The victim allegedly made a comment to Cooper about giving him his bunk back, which upset Cooper. The victim claims that Cooper punched him in the face several times, knocking him to the ground. Cooper then allegedly proceeded to stomp on the victims head several times.

The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of a fractured nose, a swollen black eye, and lacerations to the top of his head.

Cooper has been charged with assault in the third degree.

Cooper is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. Monday, June 14 at Saline County Circuit Court.
