
One occupant of a home suffered injuries during a fire over the weekend in Johnson County.
The Warrensburg Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire in the 700 block of East Culton Street on Sunday. Units were dispatched at 12:22 p.m. and the first engine arrived on scene four minutes later. They reported visible smoke from multiple windows and doors, along with flames from one window of a single-family residence.
The fire was brought under control at 12:31 p.m., but extensive overhaul was needed for multiple hot spots in the attic area of the structure. The residence sustained significant damage.
Five occupants of the home are displaced. The American Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance.
Three injuries were reported from the incident. One occupant of the residence received burn injuries and was transported by Johnson County ambulance for treatment. JCAD also treated and released two firefighters on scene for heat exhaustion.
The cause of the fire was determined to be unintentional. All units cleared the scene at 3:52 p.m.
The Warrensburg Fire Department was assisted with mutual-aid from the Johnson County Fire Protection District. Also assisting at the scene were the Warrensburg Police Department, JCAD, Spire and Evergy.
