She was raised and educated in Pelican Rapids and was a 1959 graduate of Pelican Rapids High School. She attended Business College in Fargo, ND. The family moved to and made Sedalia their home in 1975. While the kids were growing up, she was always a presence at the many activities they were involved in, especially sports and she never missed a game. She would later work as the Food Service Manager at Four Seasons and later for Smithton Schools. Sonja stayed active and volunteered for many organizations such as Open Door, Meals on Wheels and Bothwell Auxiliary. She was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish and served on the social concerns committee which helped to coordinate funeral dinners. Her greatest joy was spending time with her many grandchildren.
