Old Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall certainly has become an eyesore and subject of vandalism for several years now.

During her report at the council meeting on Monday, July 19, Mayor Julie Schwetz said there might be a light at the end of the otherwise dark tunnel regarding a project on the property in the 800 block of South Brunswick Avenue.

Schwetz says the city is one step further along in the process in securing $1 million to go toward demolition is huge. She says that will also help the second application process going before the Missouri Housing Development Corporation.

Mayor Schwetz explains this is a huge project to improve Marshall.

Ward 2 Councilman Kirk Arends clarified even more that this in not Section 8 housing.

The old hospital has sat vacant for the most part for nearly 30 years since new Fitzgibbon Hospital opened in 1992.
